Planned GivingWith a planned gift to ABVI-Goodwill, you can combine your desire to make a difference with your overall financial, tax, and estate planning goals. The Foresight Circle recognizes those who have chosen to support ABVI-Goodwill through their wills, estate plans, or life income arrangements. Contributions received as a result of charitable planning help build for the future by supporting the programs and services of ABVI-Goodwill in perpetuity. By joining the Foresight Circle, members will enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that their gifts will empower those who are blind or visually impaired forever. Please take a moment to see how people – perhaps in circumstances similar to yours – have found the means to offer support, and in turn, have enriched their lives and hearts in ways they never imagined. For more information on planned giving, please contact Tracy Schleyer, CFRE, Vice President of Development, by email, or phone at 585-697-5780. BequestsA bequest to ABVI-Goodwill is a simple way to invest in our mission and ensure that we continue our longstanding tradition of serving people who are visually impaired.

Gift annuitiesA charitable gift annuity provides an excellent supplement to your long range financial plans. A gift annuity is a gift of cash, stocks, or other assets through an agreement with ABVI-Goodwill which, in return, provides you with fixed payments for your lifetime. Your rate of payment is determined by the amount you transfer and your age. Generally, the older you are when your gift annuity begins, the higher your rate of payment. Payments are never lowered or raised regardless of changes in the interest rates or the national economy. The American Council on Gift Annuities will display the current gift annuity rates that ABVI-Goodwill offers. Contributing a life insurance policy to ABVI-Goodwill is a way to ensure
that people in the Rochester area and surrounding eight counties continue
to receive our services.
Richard’s path to us confirms what a small world it really is. You see,
Richard knows folks who know us—two to be exact. Ralph Buis, a longtime
volunteer here, is a friend of Richard’s and encouraged him to visit our
Low Vision Center. Russell Lane, one of our best manufacturing employees,
is also an acquaintance. Coupled with what he characterizes as top-notch
care from our team of doctors, Richard’s only too pleased to commend ABVI-Goodwill’s
good work. In fact, he’s earmarked a bequest for the agency in his will.
“If anyone deserves support, it’s ABVI-Goodwill,” he proudly admits. “I
may not need them now, but I know given my condition that I’ll need them
down the road.” His advice: “If you have a problem, get help. There are lots that a good
doctor and ABVI-Goodwill can do. Take advantage of the visual aids,
magnifiers, etc. available today. Most importantly, keep a positive
outlook. See the doctor the minute you have the slightest problem. They
can take care of any ruptured eye vessels before they become scar tissue.”
Through Richard’s bequest, he is taking care of others who will use the
services at ABVI-Goodwill in the future. He has joined hundreds who are
members of ABVI-Goodwill’s Foresight Circle by leaving a
legacy gift through his will. His commitment to the agency will live on.
Reflections on a Lifetime of Commitment “It’s ironic how a seemingly small decision early in life can lead to a lifetime ambition. While in college I became involved in a sorority whose mission is sight conservation and aid to people who are blind. Later, I joined the local chapter. Our job was to lend a hand at the then Association for the Blind on Monroe Avenue. Back then, our projects included sprucing up the apartments in which people who were blind lived, taking employees shopping, and planning outings. For more than thirty years, I’ve volunteered as a driver, taking people to doctor appointments, meetings, etc. In everything I’ve ever done with ABVI–Goodwill, I’ve always felt appreciated—deriving tremendous satisfaction from knowing that my contribution was valued by both the organization and the people served. Now, with three grown children, giving back to the organization that has given me so much has become more important than ever. That’s why I’ve provided in my will for those organizations like ABVI–Goodwill who’ve given me so much personal satisfaction—in a way that will provide for them and the people they serve in the future. Creating a legacy is truly a gift—a gift of immeasurable value anyone can afford to give.” Shirley Preston If you would like to make a donation to this fund, please see our Charitable Giving section.
Anonymous Donor TestimonialProviding in Many Ways More than a decade ago, a special friend of ABVI-Goodwill had the foresight to support the good work of ABVI-Goodwill for many years to come. She made a decision to establish a Charitable Lead Trust to benefit ABVI-Goodwill. This decision has helped us serve thousands of people who are blind or visually impaired, and she recently renewed her commitment to ABVI-Goodwill with another lead trust. People who wish to make a substantial gift over a period of years, while ensuring that their property is returned to their loved ones, may be interested in a Charitable Lead Trust. The lead trust is a way to control exactly when an inheritance is received, while reducing or eliminating taxes and probate expense that might otherwise be due on assets left to your children, grandchildren or others. Our special friend who has established these Charitable Lead Trusts for ABVI-Goodwill has a sincere admiration for the work of ABVI-Goodwill in helping people to deal with their vision loss by offering them the hope of a new beginning. Her positive attitude, personal dedication and her own foresight in supporting our mission are invaluable to those in our community who are blind or visually impaired. . |
