Social Work Services

If you're experiencing vision loss, or have been diagnosed with an eye condition, you need to know there are people, just like you, who have come to terms with the changes this brings to their lives. Learning to live with vision loss doesn’t just require mastering physical challenges. It’s an emotional journey that has a strong impact on individuals with vision loss and their families.

Many of the concerns and anxieties we hear are commonly associated with the demands of aging. Vision loss can intensify the feelings of isolation, helplessness and loss of independence. Coping with these emotions begins with understanding them.

Everyone has different needs and preferences for seeking support and sharing personal information during challenging times.  This is particularly true for individuals who are experiencing vision loss.  In response to this need, the Vision Rehabilitation department offers a variety of services that address the social support you, and your family, need to successfully adjust to vision loss.
Social work services available for individuals and their family members include:

  • Adjustment to Vision Loss Support Groups.
    Initial six week session
    On-going monthly meetings follow
  • Case management services.
    Individual counseling

    Adjusting to vision loss
