Who We Are

At ABVI–Goodwill, our mission is to prepare and empower people who are blind or visually impaired to be self-sufficient and contribute to their families and communities. ABVI–Goodwill is the only not-for-profit agency in the Greater Rochester Area that provides a full range of vision rehabilitation and employment and training services to people who are blind or visually impaired.

ABVI-Goodwill has evolved into one of the most dynamic not-for-profit organizations in the Greater Rochester and Finger Lakes region with a service area that extends to nine counties, including Monroe, Wayne, Ontario, Livingston, Steuben, Yates, Seneca, Schulyer and Chemung.

Our agency is not only focused on serving people who are blind or visually impaired, but also on improving the communities we are in. That is why we launched the GoodNeighbor program in the summer of 2008.The GoodNeighbor program reaches out to people in need through a collaborative effort with other key community agencies already involved with underserved populations. The primary component of the program is the donation of Goodwill gift cards to partner agencies for use with their own clients.

Golisano Children’s Hospital
at Strong, the Greater Rochester Chapter of the American Red Cross, the YWCA of Rochester and Monroe County, Saint’s Place, and Chances and Changes domestic violence program are just a few of the partners we have through this exciting program. The program also joins ABVI-Goodwill and its GoodNeighbor partners in other ways that can benefit the community, including offering space at the Goodwill stores for training and other events, co-sponsoring community education programs, and conducting joint donation drives to collect gently used clothing and household items to support the mission of ABVI-Goodwill.

ABVI-Goodwill has many different career opportunities, but all of these come with the added benefit of knowing you are making a difference in the lives of people who are blind or visually impaired and many others in your own community.
